Cosumnes River College (CRC) is among the first in the nation to participate in a new program to improve indoor air quality and sustainability in school facilities. The Healthy Green Schools & Colleges program is a joint initiative of Green Seal and Healthy Schools Campaign to help school facility professionals identify and implement low- and no-cost measures that can make a big difference in indoor air quality without major capital investments.

The Healthy Green Schools & Colleges program was developed in partnership with recognized school facility management leaders and covers the full range of facilities management practices, including cleaning and disinfecting; integrated pest management; sustainable purchasing; HVAC and electric maintenance; indoor air quality testing and monitoring; training; and communication.

By joining the program, Cosumnes River College commits to measuring itself against the Healthy Green Schools & Colleges leadership standard and identifying opportunities to improve the health and sustainability of indoor environments in its facilities.

This aligns with the campus’ Sustainability Committee which strives to increase understanding of our ethical responsibility to our planet and future generations and to assist the campus in its efforts to create an environmentally just, socially responsible, and equitable academic setting.

“By committing to the Healthy Green Schools & Colleges leadership standard, Cosumnes River College is prioritizing the well-being of students and staff and providing safer, healthier indoor environments,” said Rochelle Davis, President and CEO of Healthy Schools Campaign.

CRC Administrative Services Director Chris Raines serves on the Healthy Green Schools steering committee and was instrumental in getting the college on board with this program.
