A Message of Solidarity and Action

These have been incredibly heavy and intense days with the escalation of racism and violence against black lives. The recent killings of George Floyd, Ahmaud Aubrey, Breonna Taylor, and Tony McDade are heinous acts of violence. Our students, employees and community are still processing the pain of these deaths and the list of names keeps growing. We are tired. It must stop.

The culmination of police killings and gravity of the impact the pandemic has on black and brown people has sparked nationwide outrage across cities. The system of white supremacy and structure of anti-blackness are the root causes of racism and violence against black and brown communities. The protests in Minneapolis, Louisville, Atlanta, and Sacramento are in response to this injustice, and a country that has historically failed and continues to fail communities of color.

We are hopeful that we will turn our collective grief and outrage into individual and community action to actively confront anti-blackness and white supremacy. Together we stand in solidarity with our Black community - our students, faculty, staff, and administrators - to fight against systemic inequity, injustice, and racism. It is our responsibility to restore faith and hope to our campus.

This begins with each of us reaffirming CRC’s values and staying vigilant to address structural inequities.

To the members of CRC’s black community, we see you, we hear you, and we will take action to deconstruct structural racism so that our black students can succeed at Cosumnes River College.
