The CRC Anthropology Program is pleased to announce a unique opportunity for students interested in archaeology to work on artifacts from a historic site located in Old Sacramento.
CRAWL was founded in 2012 with the goal of providing an archaeological lab experience for community college students. Currently we are working on artifacts from a historic site located in Old Sacramento. The collection includes a variety of artifacts including glass, ceramics, metal, personal grooming items, and animal bone among other things.. Parts of the collection are on loan to CRAWL and include glassware, ceramics, personal grooming items and effects, and animal bone among other things. Students who have worked in CRAWL have gained valuable lab skills, presented their findings at regional conferences, and have transferred to four-year institutions to continue their studies in archaeology.
Under the supervision of Profs. Amanda Paskey and Anastasia Panagakos, the CRC Anthropology program will be offering selected students the opportunity to work with this collection and learn the fundamentals of archaeological lab analysis. In order to apply for this project, students must meet the following criteria:
- Have successfully completed one anthropology class at a college or university with a grade of "B" or higher. If the course was not completed at CRC please provide an unofficial transcript. OR An exemption will be granted for students who have successfully completed one course in a related discipline (such as history) at a college or university with a grade of “B” or higher. For this exemption, a letter of recommendation is required from a faculty member in that discipline.
- Be enrolled in classes at an academic institution for the upcoming term (CRC students will be given preference)
- Be able to commit to the following:
- Ten four-hour lab sessions on Fridays
