When a class fills up, students may join the waitlist. Most waitlists hold a maximum of 20 students.
Waitlist Limitations
During the fall or spring semester, you can be waitlisted for a maximum of 12 units across the Los Rios colleges. In the summer session, you can be waitlisted for a maximum of five units across the Los Rios colleges.
If you are on the waitlist for a class, then you cannot enroll in or join the waitlist for another section of that same class. You cannot join the waitlist after the first day instruction begins.
Paying for Waitlisted Classes
You do not pay for waitlisted classes. You only pay for a class once you are enrolled in the class. If you are enrolled in a class from the waitlist, then you must pay your enrollment fees immediately or you will be dropped from the class. See fee payment deadlines.
Students who receive the California Promise Grant will not be automatically dropped for non-payment. It is critical for these students to monitor their class schedule and drop classes they no longer want.
Monitor Your Waitlist Status
If you are on the waitlist, then you may be automatically enrolled in the class if other students drop the class. If you are added to a class from the waitlist, then you must pay your enrollment fees immediately or you will be dropped from the class. See fee payment deadlines.
Here is information on how to increase your chances of getting into a waitlisted class:
- Monitor your waitlist status throughout the enrollment period in eServices.
- Email the professor to ask if you can add the course. You can find the professor's email in the college directory.
If you no longer want to take a class, then remove yourself from the waitlist to avoid being enrolled in a class automatically.
After Classes Begin
If you are still on the waitlist for a class when the semester begins, then attend the first class meeting to see if the instructor will give you a permission number to add the class.
Many instructors will add students based on the number of students who do not show up on the first day of class. Other instructors may ask you to return to the next class meeting before making decisions about allowing other students to add.
Note About Online Classes
If your first class meeting is online, then you should email the professor before the start of the class to ask for a permission number. You can find the professor's email in the college directory.
Drop Waitlisted Classes You No Longer Want to Join
If you are automatically enrolled into a class from the waitlist and you decide not to take the class, then log in to eServices and drop the class immediately. It is your responsibility to drop a class before the drop deadline. Do not expect an instructor to drop you from a class.
Permission Numbers
A permission number is required to enroll in a waitlisted class after the first day of instruction for the following reasons:
- You are currently on the waitlist.
- The class is full.
- The class requires the instructor's consent.
