Cosumnes River College’s Child Development Center Earns Accreditation
The Cosumnes River College Child Development Center (CDC) has earned accreditation through the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), with outstanding scores in all 10 program standards with an overall passing rate of 95.86%.
The 10 programs standards include:
- Leadership
- Physical environment
- Curriculum
- Community
- Health
- Assessments
- Staff
- Teaching
- Families
- Interactions
The last time the CDC went through accreditation was 2011-2016. While accreditation of a child development center is not required, NAEYC accreditation helps teachers and other staff at early learning programs develop a shared understanding and commitment to quality. The accreditation process leads to increased staff morale, greater staff retention, and a more positive, energetic work atmosphere overall—enabling centers to provide a solid foundation for all children's success in life. NAEYC accreditation is the gold standard for early childhood education programs across the country. Families of young children who attend NAEYC accredited programs can be confident that they deliver the highest quality of early care and education.
The Nest family resource center at CRC’s Child Development Center is funded primarily through the CCAMPIS grant (Child Care Access Means Parents in School Programs). One stipulation within the CRC application for the grant is that the CDC will be fully accredited by year three, together the Center has completed the arduous process of accreditation.
“I have never been so honored to work with such a devoted group of people, my gratitude and thanks go to all our educators, families, and students for the work and dedication in making this accreditation possible,” said Lora Wardlaw, CDC Supervisor.
Our sister colleges also participate in the NAEYC accreditation program individually; American River College’s CDC has been awarded accreditation, and Sacramento City College’s Child Development Center is currently working on their award and is completing their self-evaluation portion of the program.
The accreditation lasts for five years, with a renewal option at that time.
