TRIO Upward Bound is a federally funded program aimed at preparing and motivating high school students for success in post-secondary education. The program helps strengthen students' academic skills, supports personal growth, increases post-secondary and career options, and aids students in staying focused on their educational goals.

All program services are free, but a serious commitment from the student and family is expected.

Services We Provide

Upward Bound provides year-round services to our program participants. These services include:

Academic Year

  • Weekly after-school tutoring and personalized mentoring
  • Customized Academic Plans tailored for each participant
  • Engaging Saturday Enrichment Workshops held monthly
  • Comprehensive support for college and financial aid applications
  • Exciting college tours and enriching cultural activities
  • Guidance for Dual Enrollment registration

Summer Session

  • A dynamic six-week summer program hosted at Cosumnes River College
  • Academic classes that equip students for the upcoming school year
  • Interactive workshops emphasizing communication, leadership, diversity, and emotional well-being
  • Overnight college tours offer an immersive experience

Eligibility Requirements

Students interested in the program must attend Florin, Valley, or Monterey Trail High School and meet at least two of the following criteria:

  • Be a first-generation college student (neither parent/guardian holds a four-year bachelor’s degree)
  • Meet federal income eligibility requirements
  • Have a demonstrated need for additional academic support or do not have a high GPA

How To Apply

Upward Bound Application

All information provided in this application is kept confidential and used solely to determine eligibility. If parents or legal guardians are unable to locate their 1040 tax form or prefer not to upload it, they may instead complete the Statement of Family Income as an alternative. Eligibility is determined based on the family’s taxable income.
