Assessment Testing
Important: With the newly enacted Assembly Bill 705, students who graduated from a United States high school in the last 10 years will receive English and Math placements using high school records instead of standardized assessment tests. Those students will be able to view their placements in their eServices accounts. To view your placements, login to eServices, click on the Academic Records tile, then Placements. Please contact the Placement Office at crc-placement@crc.losrios.edu for questions.
ESL Assessment Tests: If you are still learning English, then you can complete the English as a Second Language (ESL) Placement Process, which will place you in an ESL class that matches your skill level. Please visit the ESL Placement page to sign up for the ESL Placement Process.
Please see CRC's Online Services for information related to campus services, or the Los Rios Response to Coronavirus page for district-wide updates and frequently asked questions.
Information About Assessments
The ESL test is for students whose native language is not English and who wish to enroll in ESL classes. The survey consists of a set of 17 questions, followed by a response/writing sample the student provides in the ESL Placement Essay section. Please visit the ESL Placement page to sign up for the online ESL Placement Process. Results are available one to two weeks after testing and can be found online in student's eServices account.

Effective February 1, 2024 we will no longer offer Ability-to-Benefit testing.
Students who were enrolled in college courses prior to July 1, 2012 must contact the Financial Aid office at (916) 691-7325 for more information about ATB eligibility.
- Students have to be approved by the Financial Aid Office in order to take the ATB test
- Once a student receives an e-mail from the Financial Aid Office confirming that they are eligible to take the ATB test, call the Assessment/Placement Office to confirm that you are placed on the approved ATB list and make your appointment
The Ability-to-Benefit test is required for students who do not have a high school diploma or GED to establish eligibility for federal financial aid (e.g., Pell Grant, student loans). Two attempts are permitted, with a 2 week waiting period between. The Ability-to-Benefit test is an un-timed, three-part test consisting of language, reading, and math. The Ability-to-Benefit test is given by appointment only on scheduled days during the month to students who have been determined eligible to take the test by the Financial Aid Office. Call (916) 691-7332 to schedule an appointment. Note: If a student does not pass the ATB Test, skill improvement must be completed before rescheduling a subsequent test.
