How to Apply
The Health Information Technology (HIT) and Health Information Coding (HIC) Specialist Certification application opens once a year during the spring semester. Applicants will be applying for the following semester and will be part of a new HIT cohort beginning in the fall.
Fall 2025 dates and deadlines:
- Application open date: August 18, 2025
- Application deadline: October 13, 2025
- Application decision notifications: No later than October 31, 2025
Application Requirements and Priority Consideration
To be accepted into the HIT program, students must have completed all required prerequisite courses. These courses are essential to ensure students possess the foundational knowledge needed to progress through the program successfully and without delays.
Priority Acceptance
Students who have completed all prerequisite courses at the time of application submission will receive priority consideration for acceptance into the program. Once these applicants have been accommodated, any remaining spaces in the cohort will be offered to students who are in progress with their prerequisites at the time of submission, provided they complete them before the fall semester begins.
Students are strongly encouraged to take their STAT 300 course during their first semester of HIT courses.
Separation of Applications for HIT and HIC
Beginning in 2025, applications for the Health Information Technology (HIT) program and the Health Information Coding (HIC) program will be submitted through separate processes:
- HIT Application: Designed for students pursuing the HIT certification track.
- HIC Application: Designed for students focused on the health information coding specialist certification track.
Only apply to one program. Students that apply to both HIT and HIC will have a delay in acceptance and potentially miss out on starting the next cohort due to the high volume of applicants.
Important Note: If you experience technical issues during the application process, ensure you resubmit any affected materials to confirm their receipt. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
