How to Apply

The Health Information Technology (HIT) and Health Information Coding (HIC) Specialist Certification application opens once a year during the spring semester. Applicants will be applying for the following semester and will be part of a new HIT cohort beginning in the fall.

Spring 2025 dates and deadlines:

  • Application open date: January 20, 2025
  • Application deadline: April 15, 2025
  • Application decision notifications: No later than April 19, 2025

Application Requirements and Priority Consideration

To be accepted into the HIT program, students must have completed all required prerequisite courses. These courses are essential to ensure students possess the foundational knowledge needed to progress through the program successfully and without delays.

Priority Acceptance

Students who have completed all prerequisite courses at the time of application submission will receive priority consideration for acceptance into the program. Once these applicants have been accommodated, any remaining spaces in the cohort will be offered to students who are in progress with their prerequisites at the time of submission, provided they complete them before the fall semester begins.

Students are strongly encouraged to take their STAT 300 course during their first semester of HIT courses.

Separation of Applications for HIT and HIC

Beginning in 2025, applications for the Health Information Technology (HIT) program and the Health Information Coding (HIC) program will be submitted through separate processes:

  • HIT Application: Designed for students pursuing the HIT certification track.
  • HIC Application: Designed for students focused on the health information coding specialist certification track.

Applicants may apply to both programs; however, students will only be accepted into one program. Admissions decisions will prioritize aligning students with the program that best fits their qualifications and career goals.

Important Note: If you experience technical issues during the application process, ensure you resubmit any affected materials to confirm their receipt. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
