The Reading and Writing Center at the Elk Grove Center helps students who are enrolled in an English course or any other class that requires writing assignments! Improve your grades and gain valuable writing and reading skills. Students can also enroll in ENGLB 74. An ENGLB class is graded on a credit/no credit basis and not on lectures or extra homework assignments. CRC students do not need to be enrolled in the Reading and Writing Center lab to receive tutoring.

Frequently Asked Questions
The RWC only accepts paper drop offs online—not in person. Please use the RWC Paper Drop-Off on Canvas.
Please allow 24 to 48 hours for faculty and staff to review and comment on your paper. Please include as much context as you can, including the prompt for the assignment and any specific questions or concerns you have for the assignment.
We encourage ESL students to drop in and ask if what they are working on is better suited to ESL Tutoring or if the RWC is able to help. While the Reading and Writing Center is open to any enrolled student, we specialize in working on structure, argumentation, research, and higher order concerns in writing. We do have some ESL specialists that we share with the ESL Lab/Department and the Tutoring Center (Learning Resource Center, LRC 216); however, we cannot guarantee their availability will suit the needs of every student. In general, if an ESL student is has homework from an English class (ENGWR, ENGL, etc), or if their ESL class has assigned them essay writing, we should be able to help. Either way, any student that comes to the RWC will be directed to whomever can best assist them.
Possibly. There are eight ENGLB classes (ENGLB 70, 72, 73, 75, 76, 77, 78, and 299). The College Admissions office allows students to take each ENGLB class for up to one unit. The number of times a student can take an ENGLB class, then, depends on how many units the student registers for and how many hours he/she completes. For example, if a student enrolls in ENGLB 70 for 1 unit and completes the required number of hours in the lab, at the end of the semester that student will receive 1 unit and will not be able to re-enroll in ENLGB 70. However, if a student enrolls in ENGLB 70 for .5 unit and completes the required number of hours in the lab, at the end of the semester that student will receive .5 unit in the lab and will be able to re-enroll in ENGLB 70 for another .5 unit if desired.
No. Enrollment in an ENGLB class is not automatic and is not related to enrollment in any other class.
The RWC is staffed by English professors, Instructional Assistants, and Peer Tutors throughout the day. Everyone has a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences and all are able to help students to develop their writing.
By checking the schedule, students can find out if and when their professors work in the RWC. This schedule changes every semester.
No appointments are necessary. As long as students are enrolled at the college, they are free to come to the lab any time during the hours of operation.
The CRC Library and the RWC Canvas have resources for research, citation, and some grammar/reading; however, the RWC primarily works as assistance to an assignment that is brought to a tutor. We do not have curriculum or stand alone assignments that are available to students. From time to time, we host workshops and have special guests to help with foundational writing skills. Drop by the RWC or log in to Penji and ask what is available at that time.
