- Current student (I am or was enrolled in classes during fall 2024 and/or spring 2025)

Guidance for New Students (Summer/Fall 2025)
After you've applied to CRC, your next step is to attend the New Student Enrollment Orientation, where you will receive your list of recommended courses. (There are a few exceptions to this – see the Orientation FAQs to learn more).
Planning to transfer to a university for a bachelor's degree? You will use the Cal-GETC requirements to select your GE classes.
Planning to earn a degree from Cosumnes River College and join the workforce? You can follow the local AA/AS GE requirements or the Cal-GETC requirements to select your GE classes.
Guidance for Current Students
Are you planning to transfer to a UC or CSU? If your goal is to earn an Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) or transfer to a CSU or UC without an ADT, then you have two choices:
- Option 1: Continue following CSU GE Breadth or IGETC (if you first enrolled before fall 2025). Visit the catalog archives to find the catalog with your CSU GE Breadth or IGETC pattern.
- If you plan to continue following IGETC, then reference the Cal-GETC requirements along with this Cal-GETC to IGETC mapping table to select your GE classes for fall 2025.
- Option 2: Transition to the Cal-GETC requirements to select your GE classes.
If you have questions about which GE pattern is best for you, meet with a counselor.
Are you planning to get a degree and not transfer to a four-year college or university? If your goal is to earn an Associate of Arts (AA) or Associate of Science (AS) degree without transfer, then you have two choices:
- Option 1: Continue following the local AA/AS GE pattern you've been following. Visit the catalog archives to find the catalog with your AA/AS GE pattern. Use this new to old AA/AS GE mapping table to help you select your GE classes for fall 2025.

FAQ
Beginning in Fall 2025, California Community Colleges are introducing a standardized lower-division general education pathway for incoming first-time students, called the California General Education Transfer Curriculum (Cal-GETC) under AB 928. This pathway will be accepted by both the California State University (CSU) and University of California (UC) systems, ensuring a more straightforward transfer process without redundant coursework.
- New students will follow the Cal-GETC pattern if they want to a four-year institution (UC or CSU).
- Continuing students who have maintained continuous enrollment will adhere to their established catalog rights and will not be required to follow CalGETC.
- Returning students who have lost their catalog rights need to follow the Cal-GETC pattern if they want to transfer to a four-year institution (UC or CSU). Make an appointment with a counselor to discuss the course requirements for your major.
Catalog rights at California Community Colleges refer to a student's right to graduate under the degree and certificate requirements that were in effect when they first enrolled, as long as they maintain continuous enrollment. This means that even if the college updates its curriculum, students can follow the requirements from their original enrollment year rather than adjusting to new ones. See examples below:
- Catalog rights for first-time students: “First-time student” refers to students who are starting their first term as a college student in Summer of 2025 or future terms. These students would follow the requirements from the catalog of their first term of enrollment.
- Catalog rights for continuing students: “Continuing student” refers to students who have attended at least one session continuously each calendar year at any college, not just within Los Rios Community College District. These students would follow the requirements from the catalog of their first term of enrollment.
- Catalog rights for returning students: “Returning student” refers to students who are returning to college after an absence in a full calendar year. After a full calendar year of absence, returning students will will be subject to the degree and certificate requirements in effect at the time of re-enrollment. It is recommended that returning students meet with an academic counselor to review their options and determine the best path to completion.
Catalog rights at a Los Rios college are lost if a student does not attend at least one session in each calendar year.
If you return to college after losing catalog rights, you will typically be required to follow the degree and certificate requirements in effect at the time of your re-enrollment. Meet with a counselor to discuss.
Yes, current students can follow the GE pattern aligned with their catalog rights, the current GE pattern, or the GE pattern in place at the time the student files a petition to graduate.
