After you're officially enrolled in the Work Experience and Internship Program (WEXP) at Cosumnes River College, there are steps you must take to stay enrolled and successfully earn college credit for your job, internship, or volunteer role.
Important: Some WEXP courses have required prerequisite and/or corequisite classes. If you do not meet these requirements, you may be dropped from the course or unable to receive credit. Please review your program and class details carefully in eServices or the CRC Catalog. If you're unsure, contact Counseling as soon as possible for guidance.
What You Need to Do
To stay enrolled and earn credit, you must:
- Secure a qualifying site before the first week of class
- Submit the Employer Agreement Request Form
- Attend one required orientation session
Once the semester begins, be sure to complete all program commitments.
Step 1: Secure a Qualifying Site
Your job, internship, or volunteer role must help you learn, grow, and explore your future goals. To qualify, your site must:
- Offer opportunities to build new or advanced skills
- Last the full semester
- Be located in the greater Sacramento area
- Align with your academic or career goals
Not sure if your site qualifies? Need help finding a site? Visit the WEXP Program page and click Make an Appointment. We’ll figure it out together.
Step 2: Submit the Employer Agreement Request Form
Once your site is confirmed:
- Check if your employer is already approved
- If not, submit the Employer Agreement Request Form. You'll need:
- Supervisor’s name and email
- Authorized signer’s name and email (usually HR or a manager; ask your supervisor if unsure)
Your site and employer agreement must be submitted before the first week of the semester. Because it can take time for your supervisor to complete the form, submit it as early as possible. Check the Employer Agreement FAQ for more info.
Step 3: Attend Orientation (Required)
You must attend one required orientation session, either an in-person session on campus or an online session via Zoom. During orientation, you’ll:
- Learn how the program works
- Meet your instructor
- Ask questions and get support
No RSVP needed. Just show up and be on time.
Know Your Commitment: Units and Work Hours
You chose your unit amount when registering. Now it’s time to make sure your schedule allows you to complete the required hours.
- Unit breakdown: One unit = 54 total work hours per semester
Example: If you’re enrolled in two units, plan to work about seven hours per week for 16 weeks.
See Work Experience Guide for Students, Earning Units for complete information.
Talk with your supervisor early to confirm your schedule. If your schedule changes or you need help updating your units, visit Admissions and Records before the first day of the semester.
