• Puente is open to all students who want to transfer
• Eligible to take ENGWR 300 (or ENGWR 300 and ENGWR 80)
• Eligible to take COMM 301 and Ethnic Studies
• Have desire and committed to engage in program events and activities
• Eligible and available for in-person courses in Fall 2024:
  1. COMM 301: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10:30 to 11:50 am
  2. ENGWR 300: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 12:00 to 1:20 pm

To join the Puente Project Familia at Cosumnes River College you must:

• Be available for the Puente required courses for Fall 2024 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:30 am to 1:20 pm
• Complete the Puente Project Interest Form
• Schedule and attend Puente Group Counseling (you will receive the sign-up form after you complete the interest form)
• Sign the Puente Student Contract: upon signing the Puente Student Contract you will be enrolled in the Puente required courses
• Attend initial Puente-required events

Puente’s Community College Program integrates six strategies to help students reach their goals.

Teaching. Students attend a two-semester accelerated English writing series with the same Puente-trained professor.

Counseling. Puente-trained counselors provide intensive academic and career counseling strategies.

Mentoring. Students are matched with adult mentors who act as role models.

Leadership Development. Puente helps develop leadership skills among students.

Enrichment Opportunities. The Puente community college program offers many opportunities for students to enhance their learning with experiences outside the traditional classroom environment.

Ongoing Support. Puente has been recognized nationally for its commitment to providing ongoing support services to its students, who are sometimes referred to as being part of the Puente familia.

Puente mentors support the Puente counselor and English instructor by motivating Puente students to build the social and cultural capital they will need for their future success as college students and career professionals. Cosumnes River College Puente mentors come from many fields and industries.

Puente was founded in 1981 by Felix Galaviz and Patricia McGrath at Chabot College in Hayward, California. The program was established to address the low rate of academic achievement among Mexican American and Latino students. Puente implements a program of rigorous instruction, focused academic counseling, and mentoring by members of the community. Puente's staff training programs have benefited approximately 300,000 students across the state. Puente is open to all students.
