Breakout Session Descriptions
Basic Needs Services
At the Hawk CARES Center, we are committed to promoting a sense of belonging and justice. Through a holistic approach, we offer basic assistance and referrals to address essential needs like food, housing, and financial security. Our goal is to ensure that from the first contact, enrolled students gain access to crucial resources and are connected to long-term support to achieve their goals.
CIB Tour
The Center for Inclusion and Belonging (CIB) empowers students to explore, affirm, and celebrate their individual and intersectional identities and define success for themselves. Each center and program promote a sense of belonging and develops student leadership to work toward social change on campus and in the community.
Dream Center
The mission of the CRC Dream Center is to support undocumented students and students from mixed-status families in achieving their academic and personal goals. Through individualized and culturally responsive services, resources, and advocacy, the Dream Center addresses the unique barriers immigration-impacted students may face in their pursuit of higher education. The Dream Center can support with various onboarding processes, including admissions, residency, financial aid, and more.
DSPS
The Disability Support Programs & Services (DSPS) office ensures students with disabilities are given equal educational opportunities; we provide necessary accommodations to level the playing field without altering the fundamental requirements of a course. Unlike the K-12 system, students in college must self-identify and request services from our office. Our workshop will provide an overview of our services, a walk through of the onboarding process, highlight key areas of high school to college transition, and answer any questions you may have.
Dual Enrollment Info/Q&A
Dual Enrollment provides high school students with the opportunity to enroll in college-level courses while completing their high school education. This program aims to expand college access, promote early college success, and support students in building clear pathways toward higher education and career opportunities. Through this program, students build academic confidence and accelerate progress toward their educational and career goals.
EOPS/CARE
The EOPS, CARE, NextUp, and CalWORKs Department provides coordinated support services that help students overcome financial, academic, and life challenges while pursuing their educational goals. Through personalized case management, financial and basic needs assistance, and targeted programming, the department promotes persistence, completion, and long term success. Our programs are committed to equity, collaboration, and creating a supportive campus environment where students can thrive.
Honors Program
The CRC Honors Program is an enhanced transfer opportunity program that offers a pathway to professional life. CRC Honors offers an empowering academic community centered on special-topics General Education (Cal-GETC) classes, special events, counseling, and advising, providing enhanced transfer and scholarship opportunities, and a foundation for success in graduate or professional school. CRC Honors offers students the opportunity to become highly competitive applicants to highly selective institutions.
Puente Project
The Puente Project at Cosumnes River College is a nationally recognized college success and transfer program designed to increase the number of educationally underserved students who enroll in four-year universities. Since 1981, Puente has supported students across California through an integrated model of rigorous academics, counseling, and mentorship.
Tutoring
Tutoring Services is here to support students with challenging academic material and help students become more effective learners. We aim to build confidence while offering welcoming environments for students to come and stay a while! The CRC Tutoring Center provides mostly in-person support and online tutoring for students who need academic assistance outside the classroom. Tutoring is conducted by instructor-approved peer tutors. Tutoring services are free to any CRC enrolled student.
Umoja Diop
The Umoja Diop Scholars program is a community of learners designed to support and increase academic success. This program addresses students’ needs through academic support services and curriculum focused on African American and multicultural literature, history, and experiences.
Veterans Resource Center (VRC)
The Veterans Resource Center is committed to supporting veteran students and their families with their educational and VA-related needs. Our certifying officials serve as a vital link between students and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, ensuring timely and accurate processing of educational benefits. We understand that the transition from military service to college life can present unique challenges, and we are dedicated to providing comprehensive support in recognition of your service and sacrifice.
